Stephen Yale-Loehr, a leading authority on U.S. immigration law and professor of law at Cornell University Law School, applauds today’s Senate immigration reform bill, but cautions that the toughest battle for reform is ahead, in the House of Representatives.

Yale-Loehr says:

“The Senate’s passage of a major immigration reform bill today is a milestone, but is only half the battle. A tougher battle lies ahead in the House.

“Many House members think the border security provisions in the Senate bill are not strict enough. Others think Congress should not legalize undocumented individuals under any circumstances. House Speaker John Boehner has stated that he won’t bring an immigration bill to the House floor unless it looks like a majority of Republicans support it. So far that looks unlikely.”
