Newswise — Michael Taylor, JD, research professor of Health Policy, testified today at a hearing of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce titled "The Recent Salmonella Outbreak: Lessons Learned and Consequences to Industry and Public Health." Professor Taylor described the importance of creating a functioning system for investigating multi-state outbreaks of foodborne illness and recommended a number of specific reform steps Congress should take.

Taylor, a member of GW's School of Public Health and Health Services and chair of the Food Safety Research Consortium, served formerly as administrator of the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (1994-96) and as deputy commissioner for policy of the Food and Drug Administration (1991-94).
