Newswise — The threat to Earth from asteroids, the role of space science in understanding our home planet, and a musical interpretation of astrophysics " these are key events to be held October 10-11 in support of the global celebration called World Space Week.

The Secure World Foundation (SWF) is sponsoring these activities in cooperation with the University of Colorado Boulder Fiske Planetarium and Science Center in Boulder, Colorado.

"Since Colorado represents the second largest home for aerospace employers in the United States, the SWF aims to inform people about developments that may impact them and future plans that may need their help," said Phil Smith, Communications Director for the Secure World Foundation.

"Our aim is to also inspire young people to consider careers in space, since this generation will pick up the baton when the current generations move on," Smith said. "The Foundation hopes that people realize a wide variety of talent and skills will be required as our civilization prepares to utilize space in new and profound ways."
