SIMON SCHOOL PROFESSOR NAMED TO ACADEMY OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERS

Abraham Seidmann Honored for Professional Contributions

Rochester, N.Y.--May 14, 1998--Abraham Seidmann, Xerox Professor of Computers and Information Systems and Operations Management at the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, has been named a member of the Texas Tech University Academy of Industrial Engineers. The Academy was established by the University's Department of Industrial Engineering in 1991 to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in the IE field.

In announcing the nomination, Professor James L. Smith, chairman of Texas Tech's Department of Industrial Engineering, stated: "Dr. Seidmann is a well-known educator whose specialties include strategic and economic aspects of business information systems. We are proud of his accomplishments and are pleased to have him honored as a graduate of this department."

Seidmann received his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Texas Tech in 1980. He joined the Simon School faculty in 1986, where his research interests include executive and corporate information systems, operations strategy, computer control of production systems and the development of advanced financial and medical information systems. Seidmann has consulted on four continents with various international corporations on the strategic implementation of computerized management systems and on product and service management.

In acknowledging his Academy appointment, Seidmann commented: "Being inducted into the Academy of Industrial Engineers is a great honor for me as a Simon School faculty member. The Academy includes senior business leaders, high ranking public service officers and leading scientists from research universities around the world. The invitation by senior peers to join this distinguished group indicates the amount of respect they have for our cutting-edge research, teaching, and professional and outreach activities. It reflects well on the quality and reputation of the Simon School faculty."

Seidmann is a member of numerous scientific and honor societies, including Beta Gamma Sigma, the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Institute of Management Science. He publishes extensively in leading scientific journals. In January 1998, he was co-author (with Rajiv Dewan and Zhiping Walter) of a paper which won the 1998 HICSS award for the best research paper in the collaboration systems and technology track.
