SIMON SCHOOL RANKS AGAIN IN U.S. NEWS TOP 25

M.B.A. Program in Demand by Corporate Recruiters

Rochester, N.Y.--March 18, 1998--As one of the smallest and youngest top-tier business schools in the country, the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration is nevertheless a pioneer in M.B.A. education, as evidenced by the School's top-25 placement in U.S. News and World Report's 1998 business school rankings. This standing, coupled with a continuing increase in recruitment activity and corporate recognition of School programs, has made Simon a front-runner in meeting today's growing demand for well-trained M.B.A. graduates.

The Simon School currently provides 444 full-time students with a high-caliber M.B.A. program in demand by corporations and recruiters. U.S. News and World Report ranked the school 16th overall in placement success, with 98.7 percent of all students in the Class of 1997 being employed within three months of graduation, and a median base salary offer of $66,000. Currently, job offers for second-year students are up 62 percent over the same time last year, offers for summer internships are up 92 percent, and applications for admission have jumped 29 percent. "The academic and corporate communities realize the value of a Simon School M.B.A. generated by our strong faculty, proven academic philosophies and global vision," said Dean Charles I. Plosser, who took over the helm of the Simon School five years ago.

The U.S. News & World Report survey recognized the School's world-renowned faculty and integrated academic approach, with five specialty areas ranking among the 25 best in the country. These areas include accounting, finance, general management, management information systems and product/operations management. The Simon School excels in these areas due to a cross-functional, integrated academic approach led by a diverse, research-oriented faculty working on the cutting-edge of management education. "We take pride as a faculty in exposing our students to our individual and collective research on modern management issues, trends and practice," stated Ross L. Watts, professor of accounting and finance, Rochester Telephone Corporation Professor, and chairman of the School's Ph.D. Program, who is widely regarded as one of the leading accounting academics in the country. "Students have firsthand access to the top-notch research that is shaping their areas of specialization."

Another reason for Simon's recognition is the School's reputation as the most international of American M.B.A. programs, with 44 percent of its full-time student population coming from outside the U.S., student exchange programs with leading schools in eight foreign countries, and executive M.B.A. programs in the Netherlands and Switzerland. The Simon School was the first American business school to interview prospective students in the People's Republic of China, and the School routinely conducts interviews in Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, as well as in Europe, Latin America and South America. The current student body represents 47 countries. This diverse environment makes programs like the School's Coach-Mentor Program, recently recognized by General Electric's Learning Excellence Program as the best teamwork initiative of its kind, feel much like today's corporate workplace, where diversity and teamwork are the norm.

The annual U.S. News & World Report survey, which uses measures of academic quality for its results, has ranked Simon among the top 25 business schools in the U.S. since the survey's inception in 1990. "We are, of course, gratified that the Simon School has once again been recognized for the unique value our approach brings to management education," said Dean Plosser. "We will continue to focus on providing the highest value- added educational experience we possibly can so that our students will be successful in their chosen careers. It is their success that is the best measure of our success."
