SIMON STUDENTS IN DEMAND

Jump in Starting Salaries; Job and Internship Offers to Class of '97 Reflect School's Position Among Top Ranks

Confirmed Students for Class of 1999 Up 110% Over Same Time Last Year

Rochester, N.Y., May 12, 1997--Reflecting its leap into the top ranks of American business schools and the high caliber of its M.B.A. program, starting salaries for 1997 graduates of the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration jumped a whopping 17.6% (from one year ago) to $69,399. In addition, job offers are up 15% and summer internship offers are up 41% over last year.

"This is the single largest leap in salaries for graduating M.B.A.'s that I have seen in my 12-year placement career," said Lee A. Junkans, Simon's assistant dean for career services. "The offers for jobs and internships are also greatly increased, indicating the quality of the Simon education and the responsiveness by corporate America to the Simon degree."

The biggest increases in job offers were seen in consulting (up 21%), marketing (up 15%), investment banking (up 11%) and operations/general management (up 10%).

For the first time at the Simon School, teleconferencing was used as a way to expand the recruitment effort. For example, Johnson & Johnson conducted interviews from their New Jersey headquarters with three international students whom they had learned about from the Simon School rÈsumÈ book. In addition, Barilla, the Italian consumer product manufacturer, interviewed three first-year students for summer internships via teleconferencing. Three Barilla executives located in Parma, Italy, conducted the interviews, resulting in offers to two Simon first-year students.

A look toward the future is quite encouraging as well. As of May 1, the Simon School had 124 confirmed students for the Class of 1999--an increase of 110% over the number confirmed at the same time last year. The confirmed incoming students have an average GMAT score of 633 (up seven points over last year's average this time) and an average GPA of 3.21. Average amount of work experience is 4.7 years and the average age is 28. # # #

The Simon School was ranked among the top 20 U.S. graduate business schools by U.S. News & World Report, and among the top 25 by Business Week. The School, recognized worldwide for its leading scholarship in education, offers a distinctive approach to business education because of its flexibility, innovation, youth, size, global outlook and vision.
