As the Supreme Court considers what could be landmark legislation regarding the legality of California’s Proposition 8, millions nationwide — on both sides of the argument — are anxiously awaiting the outcome. Dr. Diane Illig, chair of Salisbury University’s Sociology Department, is among them.

Illig has taught courses in marriage and family, gender roles and lesbian and gay studies at SU. She presented at conferences including the Summer Institute on Sexuality, Society and Health at San Francisco State University; the Gay and Lesbian Studies Conference at the University of North Carolina; and the North American Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Studies Conference, among others. She also is the advisor for SU’s LGBTQ Alliance and past president of the Sociologists’ Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.

Illig is available to speak with reporters on what the court’s decision on Proposition 8 could mean and how it may impact same-sex couples nationwide. To schedule an interview, call the SU Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030 or e-mail [email protected].
