Newswise — University of the Sciences in Philadelphia will officially launch the careers of the next generation of pharmacists, scientists, and healthcare professionals when the University conducts its 188th commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. In addition to conferring degrees almost 500 degrees, the University will also bestow three honorary doctor of science degrees when it holds graduation at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
Honorary degree recipients include:"¢ Britton Chance, PhD, a professor emeritus in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Chance is a pioneer in research in the fields of magnetic resonance spectroscopy, breast cancer diagnostics, biomedical optics and development of spectroscopy as a noninvasive analytical tool for clinical diagnosis.
"¢ Fred M. Eckel P'61, MS, RPh, executive director for the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. This alumnus has been a strong advocate for the University and dedicated to the advancement of pharmacy, as well as an inspiration to pharmacists throughout the nation.
"¢ Marilyn Moffat, PT, PhD, professor of physical therapy at New York University, and president of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. Dr. Moffat has had a profound and worldwide influence on the advancement of and research in physical therapy.
Philadelphia College of Pharmacy will confer 240 degrees, followed by the College of Health Sciences (113), the Misher College of Arts and Sciences (66), the Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy (40), and the College of Graduate Studies (38).
