As the conflict between the United States and Iraq continues, military families are facing the possibility that one or both parents may be called away from home and their children for many months.

"Because servicemen and women are being called away so quickly, it's important that those parents spend as much quality time as they can with their children beforehand," says child development expert Jerry Aldridge, Ph.D. "If a child expresses concerns over a parent's safety, while you don't want to lie, you can tell them that mom or dad will be as safe as they can possibly be, and that they'll make every effort to stay safe."
