Editors: Please note local interest.Newswise — CHICAGO – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, has appointed four registered dietitian nutritionists to three-year terms as media spokespeople: Jennifer Bruning, MS, RDN, LDN, of Chicago, Ill.; Robin Foroutan, MS, RDN, of New York, N.Y.; Caroline West Passerrello, MS, RD, LDN, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Angel Planells, MS, RDN, CD, of Seattle, Wash.

The Academy’s national volunteer spokesperson network consists of 30 registered dietitian nutritionists who conduct thousands of nutrition and healthful eating interviews each year on behalf of the Academy with print, broadcast and online media.

As registered dietitian nutritionists, Academy spokespeople are the food and nutrition experts. They have fulfilled rigorous educational and practice requirements, including at least a bachelor’s degree (more than half of the spokespeople hold advanced degrees), completed a supervised practice program and passed a national registration examination — in addition to maintaining continuing education requirements for recertification.

The following registered dietitian nutritionists have been appointed as new Academy spokespeople for 2016-2019:• Jennifer Bruning, MS, RDN, LDN, Chicago, Ill., is the corporate director of wellness at SodexoMAGIC where she designs and implements food-based interventions to energize and empower employees, enhancing effectiveness, efficiency and well-being. Her specialties include gerontology, food service, food preparation and meal planning, healthy food shopping and general wellness.

• Robin Foroutan, MS, RDN, New York, N.Y., is a private-practice dietitian providing in-home and in-office counseling and specializing in integrative nutrition, gastrointestinal nutrition, food sensitivities, weight management and nutrigenomics. • Caroline West Passerrello, MS, RD, LDN, Pittsburgh, Pa., is a private-practice dietitian working with companies and clients to develop custom, innovative and results-oriented health and wellness programs. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh. Her specialties include retail and supermarket nutrition, sports and fitness nutrition and weight management.

• Angel Planells, MS, RDN, CD, Seattle, Wash., is the lead clinical dietitian for the Veterans Administration Puget Sound, where he provides coverage for inpatient, outpatient and clinical nutrition guidance. He specializes in men’s health, gerontology, sports nutrition and fitness and general wellness.
