Reston, VA (Feb. 8, 2012) — The American College of Radiology (ACR) Education Center, “radiology’s classroom of the future,” recently marked the completion of its one-hundredth course offering. The state-of-the-art center has enabled more than 3,600 physicians to experience hands-on training, on individual workstations, using the imaging software of their choice, often with one-on-one instruction from world-class faculty.
“The ACR Education Center offers the next generation of educational resources and teaching methods — currently not available through any other venue. The most advanced technology, renowned faculty, and the largest repository of annotated data sets and case examples offer an educational experience unlike any other. I can’t urge medical imaging providers strongly enough to take advantage of this incredible resource,” said Cheri L. Canon, MD, chair of the ACR Education Commission.
Attendees gain hands-on knowledge and expertise through a mentored self-study format that can allow for one-on-one interaction with instructors and equipment vendors, provides frequent feedback and is performed at individual workstations that replicate the attendees clinical practice environment. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees receive a certificate of proficiency from the ACR.
“The ACR Education Center serves as a “mini-university,” offering hands-on refresher courses and new techniques for doctors already in practice. When new techniques are introduced, the center provides a national training resource to educate providers, so the early learning curve is accomplished through new educational methods, including simulation, rather than on patients. This is the wave of the future available to imaging providers right now,” said Dr. Canon.
