Newswise — Reston, VA — The American College of Radiology (ACR®) has revised the name of the Patient Experience Commission to the ACR Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care to better reflect the commission’s scope and purpose. The College also created a new resource section to help radiology providers transition to new quality-based alternative payment models.

“The change to the Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care reflects the need to engage patients and their families in the planning and improvement of radiology care and in the operation of the radiology enterprise,” said James V. Rawson, MD, FACR, chair of the American College of Radiology Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care. “This can help ensure that we provide high quality care in a manner that incorporates the needs, wants and values of our patients and communities and leads to better satisfaction among those we serve.”

The Commission was created to help promote constructive relationships between radiologists, their patients and caregivers, and support radiology participation in emerging alternative payment models. The Commission will produce resources to help radiology professionals provide and document patient- and family-centered care, including:

• Recommendations to help radiology practices enhance experiences of patients and their families • Information regarding how best to measure radiology patient outcomes • Tools, metrics and policies created with other ACR commissions that help practices meet Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and alternative payment model requirements

“This commission will help radiology professionals forge closer relationships with communities, increase patient satisfaction and document the important role radiology serves in making and keeping patients well,” said Rawson.
