Newswise — The American College of Sports Medicine is pleased to announce that Adrian E. Bauman, MB.BS., M.P.H., Ph.D., is a recipient of its 2016 Citation Award. Dr. Bauman was selected for this award because of his significant contributions to sports medicine and the exercise sciences. He was recognized at an awards banquet during the association’s annual meeting.

“Citation Award winners are selected for their leadership and contributions in the areas of research and scholarship, clinical care, administrative services or educational services,” said Liz Joy, president of ACSM. “We’re happy to recognize Dr. Bauman’s tremendous accomplishments.”

Dr. Bauman is the Sesquicentenary Professor of Public Health at the University of Sydney School of Public Health, director of the Prevention Research Collaboration and carries out international physical activity work through his World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity. He completed his medical degree (MB.BS.) (1978), Masters of Public Health (M.P.H.) (1985), and Ph.D. in Public Health (1991) at the University of Sydney, Australia. He is a long time ACSM member, has attended 18 annual meetings since 1995 and presented at all of them. He delivered a Presidential Lecture in 2007 and the Paffenbarger Lecture in 2010.

Bauman is one of the leading physical activity and public health researchers in the world and has served as a key advisor to the Australian government, serving on multiple commissions and advisory committees that have guided national public health policy. Adrian has published more than 600 peer reviewed scholarly papers, two books, more than 60 book chapters and contributed to 41 government reports. Bauman has served on editorial advisory boards of five international and national journals and is currently a reviewer for 30 journals. In addition to teaching at the University of Sydney, he has led or contributed to dozens of physical activity and public health short courses around the world, developed online training and mentored 70 doctoral and masters students.
