AMERICAN PARKINSON DISEASE ASSOCIATION INFORMATION AND REFERRAL CENTER NOW OPEN AT CEDARS-SINAI MEDICAL CENTER
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 4, 1998) -- The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Information and Referral Center has opened at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to assist individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, including their families and caregivers. Services are free of charge and include a wide range of information and support to help understand the disease and maintain quality of life.
The Center is a collaborative effort between Cedars-Sinai and the APDA to promote a better quality of life for the Parkinson's community. It serves as a regional "hub" to respond to the particular needs of persons affected by Parkinson's Disease and their caregivers through education, referral, support and public awareness programs.
Among the information available at the Center are educational materials such as a lending library of books and videotapes; current information on medical and surgical treatments of Parkinson's Disease; physician referrals and community resources; support groups for patients and caregivers and counseling services.
ìThe center is very special because it provides people with ParkinsonÃs the most up to date resources on medical and surgical treatment of ParkinsonÃs Disease as well as providing referrals to support groups and a variety of other community resources,î says Stefan-M. Pulst, M.D., Director, Division of Neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Carmen and Louis Warschaw Chair in Neurology.
