AMGA Welcomes Three New Members to Board of DirectorsLeaders from Cleveland Clinic, Henry Ford Medical Group, and Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group

Newswise — ALEXANDRIA, VA-The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors, beginning their tenure in January 2016. Joining the AMGA Board are the following:

Steven A. Green, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical GroupDr. Green joined Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group (SRSMG) in 1988. At SRSMG he was a full-time family physician until July 2014. In addition to a full practice, he chaired the SRSMG Family Medicine Department from 1992 until 2013 and chaired the Council of Department Chairs from 2002 until 2013. Dr. Green has been on the Board of Directors from March 2013 until present, helping lead SRSMG to state and national recognition in quality, receiving the IHA top-performing medical group status as well as the AMGA Acclaim Award. On January 1, 2015 he began his role as Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer of SRSMG and continues to practice as a float physician one day each week.

Along with his roles at SRSMG, Dr. Green has been active in education, precepting medical students and residents at UC San Diego from 1989 to 2014. He was appointed a voluntary clinical professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine in 2012. Dr. Green has chaired the Sharp HealthCare Aloha Primary Care Conference for the last three years.

Dr. Green has taken an active role in leadership in medicine, serving on the Board of the San Diego Academy of Family Physicians since 1993 and as President in 2000. He served on the Board of the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) from 2003 until 2014 and was President in 2012 to 2013.

In addition, he has been a member of the Board of the CAFP Political Action Committee since 2007 and on the CAFP Legislative Affairs Committee since 2005, reviewing legislative issues and making recommendations to the CAFP board of directors regarding issues affecting physicians in California. He served as a delegate and alternate delegate to the California Medical Association House of Delegates in 2005 and from 2007 through 2011, and on the Board of the San Diego County Medical Society from 2008 to 2012. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Council for Accountable Physician Practices since February 2015, as well as the AMGA Government relations leadership council. In 2011, Dr. Green became a member of the San Diego Rotary, participating in community events including teaching high school juniors about business at Camp Enterprise.

This year Dr. Green was selected as the California Academy of Family Physicians Foundation 2015 Physician of the Year.

Dr. Green was raised in Los Angeles, graduating from UCLA in 1981 with a BS in biochemistry. He attended UC San Diego School of Medicine receiving his MD in 1985, after which he completed an internship and residency in Family Medicine at Northridge Hospital, CA.

J. Stephen Jones, MD, President, Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals & Family Health CentersOn December 1, 2014 Dr. Jones began his role as President of nine Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and 18 Family Health Centers throughout Northeast Ohio. With recent mergers, he now oversees 11 hospitals and more than 20 Family Health Centers.

He joined the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute in 2000, and became the Chairman of the Department of Regional Urology in 2007. Jones was Chief of Surgical Operations for the regional hospitals after serving in a similar role at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital. He became Vice President of Regional Medical Operations in early 2014. He also serves as Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and holds the Leonard Horvitz and Samuel Miller Distinguished Chair in Urologic Oncology.

Castle Connolly lists him in “America’s Top Doctors” signifying ranking in the top 1% of all urologists as well as the top 1% of cancer physicians. He is consistently listed in “Best Doctors in America.” He has published over 200 manuscripts, more than 40 book chapters, and has written or edited 7 books.

Dr. Jones earned a BS in Zoology at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas, his MD at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed his residency at Vanderbilt University. He earned his MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at CWRU in 2010. His work was recognized by acceptance to Beta Gamma Sigma, the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business Society for the Top 20% of MBA graduates.

Thomas S. Nantais, MBA, Chief Operating Officer, Henry Ford Medical GroupMr. Nantais has been with the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) for 33 years and is presently the Chief Operating Officer of the Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG), one of the nation’s oldest and largest medical groups. His primary role includes the administrative management of the Medical Group’s $850 million operating budget, covering 30 ambulatory sites and 4,000 FTEs, including 1,300 employed physicians, who provide services in over 40 medical and surgical specialties.

In addition, Mr. Nantais oversees the Group’s physician compensation programs. He is a member of several key HFHS leadership committees, including the CEO Forum, the System Performance Council, System Quality Forum, as well as an ex-officio member of the HFMG Board of Governors.

Prior to being appointed HFMG COO in August 2005, Mr. Nantais was the Medical Group’s CFO for 12 years. His other career stops, within HFHS, included Assistant Vice-President of Corporate Finance, responsible for system business plan development and merger/acquisition analysis. He has also held numerous other financial management positions, within the Health System, during the course of his career.

Mr. Nantais is the immediate past Chair of the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) COO Council and was the first Chair of the AMGA CFO Council. In addition, he was an Adjunct Finance Professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for over 20 years. Mr. Nantais has also conducted numerous workshops at many AMGA and other national meetings and conferences over the last twenty-five years in areas such as Physician Compensation, System Integration, Healthcare Operations and Financial Management.

He is presently a board member of the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion, a not-for-profit company in the Detroit area, which focuses its services on educating companies and municipalities on key issues around diversity. He is also Chairman of the Board of the not for profit Oakland Mediation Center and a member of the Wayne State University Business School Board of Visitors. In November of 2011, Mr. Nantais founded The Belinda Sue Fund for Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Research, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity, focused on raising public awareness of the disease and to promote research in developing a definitive screening tool to identify the disease at its earliest stages. Mr. Nantais is Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Fund and, to date, the Belinda Sue Fund has raised over $400,000 in private donations.

Before joining Henry Ford Health System, Mr. Nantais worked in the insurance industry. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Business Administration-Finance degrees from Wayne State University.
