Newswise — The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) Annual Meeting —September 21–23, 2011 — offers imaging investigators a science-packed three days of presentations and research planning meetings.
At the plenary session on Thursday morning, September 22:
• ACRIN research results presented include a report by William Black, MD (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH), on the cost effectiveness of lung cancer screening as carried out in the National Lung Screening Trial.
• ACRIN network chair Mitchell Schnall, MD, PhD, and Robert Comis, MD, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), will provide information about the organizations’ pending merger and the exciting science expected to emerge as a result of this collaboration.
At the plenary session on Friday morning, September 23:
• A presentation by Keith T. Flaherty, MD (Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer), chair of ECOG’s Developmental Therapeutics Committee, about signaling pathways of cancer cells that offer clues for the development of more effective cancer therapies.
• David Mankoff, MD, PhD (University of Washington, Seattle, WA), chair of ACRIN’s Experimental Imaging Sciences Committee, will provide meeting attendees with an overview on imaging as a cancer biomarker including the goals for such trials and considerations for the development of the ECOG-ACRIN Biomarker Imaging Group that will be the cornerstone of the ECOG-ACRIN merged research agenda.
• Additionally, Reginald Munden, MD, DMD, MBA (MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas), chair of the ACRIN Accrual Working Group, will report on the group’s recommendations for improving enrollment of study participants into ACRIN clinical trials.
