Newswise — Three Johns Hopkins University professors in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering are available to answer reporters' questions on water quality issues facing the Gulf Coast region in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Professors Edward Bouwer, Charles O'Melia and William Ball are prepared to field questions about drinking water supplies, wastewater treatment and public health issues (related to water- and food-borne diseases). They can explain why getting water treatment plants running again and cleaning the distribution system will be a major challenge. They can also discuss why the collection and treatment of post-hurricane sewage and industrial wastewater is important for maintaining sanitary conditions.
