Newswise — Health-care workers from five downtown Toronto hospitals will come together on Wednesday to kick off the city’s first-ever Inter-Hospital Health Challenge — an initiative designed to encourage greater daily physical activity levels, healthier eating habits and awareness of how overall wellbeing can enhance work performance.

Staff from The Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto Rehab, St. Michael’s Hospital and University Health Network will compete from May 3 to 30 to determine whose staff take the biggest steps toward holistic health. Each hospital is already reporting great competitive fun among departments, units and internal teams. May will be an active time for the staff as they walk, run, perform yard work, dance and cha-cha-cha their teams toward a trophy and bragging rights.

At Wednesday’s kick off, staff from each hospital will participate in team-building “buddy” exercises, followed by the “GROOVE step,” a light aerobic activity led by fitness instructors from Train by Trina.

Media are invited to attend the kick-off event beginning at 12:15 p.m. and ending at 12:45 p.m.
