Newswise — Penelope Emi Hermsdorf was born on New Year’s Day at 11:50 p.m. to Minelia and Robert Hermsdorf of Cicero. She was the first baby to be born at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in 2015.

The healthy baby girl weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long.

“My wife was in labor for two days,” Mr. Hermsdorf said. “Penelope finally arrived one day after her due date thanks to a C-section."

Penelope was delivered by Recia Frenn, MD, with help from nurses Tiffany Nitti and Gina Greco at Gottlieb's Birth Center. Both the mom and baby are doing well.

Penelope is the second child for the couple. Big brother Ethan, 6, met his little sister earlier Friday. The family is expected to go home this weekend.
