Newswise — With 40 million infections worldwide and 14,000 new infections occurring each day, the AIDS pandemic continues to grow, despite advances in prevention and treatment. A preventive vaccine is the best long-term solution to the pandemic. But much still remains to be done to discover and make a vaccine accessible globally.
To advance the search for an AIDS vaccine, the Blueprint recommends a coordinated paradigm shift that would improve the AIDS vaccine pipeline, accelerate product testing and strengthen the contribution of developing countries. The Blueprint proposes financing models and a range of policy initiatives needed to speed the development of an AIDS vaccine.
