The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health will host the first International Health Geographics Conference from Friday, October 16, 1998 through Sunday, October 18, 1998 at the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies Conference Center at 5700 Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum Heights, Maryland 21090. The conference will bring together researchers, geographers, policymakers, and business people to explore the geographic aspects of health.

Geography and health are closely linked in many ways. Global warming has been associated with emerging infectious diseases and viral outbreaks. Delivery of health services and access to care is directly linked to geography as is the spread of tuberculosis. The conference will look at the relationships between health care and global information at the national, regional, and individual levels. It will also explore the use and expansion of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) the technology which enables health professionals to use and analyze spatial and pattern information in geographically-based health data.

Press is invited to attend some or all of the conference without charge. To view the full program and to read more about the conference, please visit the IHGC website at http://www.jhsph.edu/ihgc/purpose.htm.
