Newswise — Norah Hafdi was born on New Year’s Day at 3 am to Laura Myers, 38, and her husband Kamal Hafdi of Elmhurst. She was the first baby to be born at Loyola University Medical Center in 2015. The healthy baby girl weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces, and she was 19 inches long.

"Norah arrived three weeks early. We weren’t expecting her until late January, but she had other plans," Mrs. Myers said. "When I went into labor early, we were hoping she would arrive before January 1 to get the tax deduction, but we are excited she is here now."

Attending physician Scott Graziano, MD, residents Kristin Turner, MD, and Lauren Hernandez, MD, and nurse Nicky Ziga, RN, helped deliver the baby in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

This is the first baby for the couple. The mom and baby are doing well. The family is expected to go home Friday.
