Newswise — Media, educators, governments and individuals can now encourage and nominate budding young Einsteins in the U.S. and beyond to attend the "International Summer School for Young Physicists" (ISSYP) in Canada. Recently renewed funding by the Ontario government's Ministry of Research and Innovation in the order of $50 million makes increased participation possible - doubling capacity for up to 100 students over two sessions this July and August, 2006.

Last year's science camps attracted young, inquiring minds from the United States, Europe, Australia and elsewhere. This year's sessions will see a far greater number of international students take part. All 16 to 17 year olds with a demonstrated passion for physics and mathematics can be encouraged to apply before Friday, May 19th.

Participants will be challenged with some of the most fascinating ideas about how our universe works " from the weird quantum world of atoms to black holes, warped spacetime and the expanding universe. The classes, small group mentoring sessions, lab tours and social events will include instruction from and interaction with top, international scientists at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics " including researchers from the United States, the U.K., Spain, Greece, Germany, Italy, Canada and beyond. Full details and dates are available on-line at http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca

Additionally, the Institute hosts special events that are specifically tailored for educators including two national "Einstein Plus" summer camps for teachers and, from May 25th to 27th, 2006, a special program entitled "Innovative Teaching Strategies For Modern Physics" in conjunction with the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers. A variety of teaching perspectives and techniques will be discussed by guest speakers including Prof. Paula Heron, Physics Education Research, University of Washington; Gary Williams, Institute of Physics, U.K., and Dr. Howard Burton, Executive Director, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics on the topic of "Research, Outreach and Beyond" .

Additional details on these and other programs are available on-line

. Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics - located just outside Toronto, Ontario - is a non-profit scientific research and educational outreach organization dedicated to understanding all of space, time and matter.
