Newswise — According to the April issue of Town and Country magazine special section on eating disorders, Mount Sinai Eating and Weight Disorder Program (EWDP) was given the distinction as being the best eating disorders program in New York. The program, directed by Dr. Katharine L. Loeb, offers patients the most effective treatment interventions for children, adolescents and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and obesity.

Since it's creation in 2004, the EWDP has become a model for the treatment of eating and weight disorders in New York. Treatment approaches utilized by EWDP doctors are the most effective, the most rapid and the most likely to protect the patient against relapse. Each patient has a customized treatment plan modeled around the type and severity of the disorder, the stage of life and the existence of accompanying conditions, such as depression and anxiety.

"As the newest program in New York, we are very pleased to be recognized in this way. We provide patients with gold-standard treatment based on cutting-edge research. Not only does science inform our clinical efforts, but our patients' needs help guide our research," said Dr. Katharine L. Loeb, Director of the Eating and Weight Disorders Program at Mount Sinai. "Through grant funding, we are currently studying ways to improve the early identification of anorexia nervosa, a deadly and chronic illness, in adolescents, and to prevent the progression from clinically severe symptoms to the full-blown disorder."
