Newswise — WASHINGTON – Today, in a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Government’s ability to offer health insurance premiums on the Federal health insurance marketplace. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority in King v. Burwell, wrote, "It is implausible" that Congress intended for the law to function without subsidies. Consequently, regardless of a health exchange being state or federally run, all eligible beneficiaries will be able to receive subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to purchase coverage.

Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Medical Group Association (AMGA), stated: “We appreciate the Supreme Court’s decision on this critical case. Now that the Court has ruled, we can continue the important work of improving healthcare while lowering costs. AMGA looks forward to working with Congress and the Administration as we continue to make positive changes to the healthcare delivery system.”
