Session Will Discuss Causes of Infections and Ways to Prevent Them

Newswise — SAN ANTONIO – RyMed Technologies (Franklin, Tenn.) will host a breakfast symposium on the origin of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) and how to prevent them at the upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA).

The interactive session is titled “Misfits in the Mix: Fibrin, Biofilm, and CRBSI.” It is intended to raise clinicians’ awareness about the interaction between fibrin, biofilm, and CRBSI, and also provide tools for minimizing or eliminating this potentially fatal disease process.

The symposium, which includes a complimentary breakfast, will be held Wednesday, October 17th from 7:00 am to 8:30 am in Convention Center Room 103 A & B. The AVA meeting will be held October 16-19 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The speakers who will present during the session include:

* Sivaprasad Sukavaneshvar, President and CEO of Thrombodyne, Inc., who will discuss the science connecting fibrin, biofilm, and CRBSIs.

* Stephen Harris, RN, Vice President of Education for Carolina Wellness Group, who will suggest practical approaches to preventing CRBSIs by minimizing biofilm formation and fibrin adhesion.

* Brenda Caillouet, RN, who will relate clinical outcomes that have resulted from understanding the science behind biofilm formation and fibrin adhesion and applying it to central line protocol choices.

RyMed Technologies will be at Booth 118 in the Exhibit Hall of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
