Newswise — According to a new study led by University of Colorado Boulder, the moon is engulfed by a permanent, lopsided cloud of dust that gets more dense for several days after a meteor shower, like the annual Geminids, passes through. The cloud is made from dust grains kicked up from the moon's surface by the impact of high-speed, interplanetary dust particles. The findings confirm images captured in the late 1960s when NASA cameras aboard unmanned moon landers photographed a bright glow during lunar sunsets.
