Newswise — The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy will host the 16th annual International Symposium on Microencapsulation at the Lexington Convention Center on Sept. 9-12.

The event will attract researchers from around the world to discuss their work in the use of microcapsules " tiny coated spheres that permit delayed release of medications " and nanotechnology. Researchers from academic institutions in at least 15 countries, including Italy, Israel, Korea, China and the United Kingdom, will attend.

The UK conference marks the first time in 12 years that the symposium has been held in the United States. In 1995, the event was hosted by the University of Texas at Austin.

The symposium is also being sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Coldstream Laboratories Inc., Eli Lilly, Catalent Pharma Solutions, Oakwood Laboratories, Schering-Plough, Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
