Newswise — Hospital for Special Surgery's (HSS) Jo Hannafin, MD, and Scott Rodeo, MD, were named to the U.S. Olympic Committee's Medical Staff for the Games of the XXVIIIth Olympiad in Athens, Greece. As members of the Sports Medicine Committee's Medical Staff, they will support the athletes in the sports of Rowing and Swimming.

Dr. Hannafin is an orthopedic surgeon and co-founder of the Women's Sports Medicine Center at Hospital for Special Surgery. A former rower, Dr. Hannafin was a member of the silver medalist lightweight double at the 1984 World Rowing Championships and was a three-time gold medalist at the U.S. National Rowing Championships. Most recently, Dr. Hannafin served as Team Physician at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for rowing, canoeing and kayaking. Dr. Hannafin has served as Team Physician for U.S. Rowing since 1994 and was the Chief Medical Officer at the world rowing championships in Seville in 2002.

Dr. Rodeo is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. A former swimmer himself, Dr. Rodeo competed for two years at Stanford University, where he earned a trip to the NCAA National Championships. He has been offering medical assistance for USA Swimming since 1998 and has served as Head Team Physician at the World Championships in Moscow. As Chairman of the USA Swimming Sports Committee, Dr. Rodeo is responsible for coordinating the medical care both at home and abroad for all athletes competing for Team USA. Currently, Rodeo also serves as a medical consultant for Asphalt Green, a local swimming club in New York City where he resides. He also serves as an Associate Team Physician for the New York Giants football team.
