Newswise — HOUSTON – (April 11, 2016) – UT Physicians, the medical practice of McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), has opened its newest health center, UT Physicians Community Health & Wellness Center – Victory at 7364 Antoine Drive.

UT Physicians Community Health and Wellness Center – Victory is an ambulatory facility that offers high-quality care in pediatrics, internal medicine and family practice. In addition to this care, members of the community will have access to behavioral health services, exercise classes, English as a second language classes and a demonstration kitchen, which will focus on providing education on healthier eating habits.

“Three years ago, the idea of a Community Health and Wellness Center (CHWC) clinic was born out of all that we currently know about reaching communities, access barriers to health care and the best models for delivering culturally appropriate health care,” said Sandra K. Tyson, Ph.D., executive directive of UT Physicians’ Healthcare Transformation Initiatives.

The 6,100-square-foot clinic is located in a shopping center at the corner of Antoine and Victory Drive, an area that was identified as medically underserved. The shopping center includes a grocery store, pharmacy and a bus stop making the clinic easily accessible to those in the community.

“With this location being next to where people normally go for groceries, it would not be out of the way for them,” Tyson said. “They would be able to see their provider, get groceries and their prescriptions all at the same place.”

The clinic is connected with the entire UT Physicians practice to offer patients a quick turnaround when referred by their primary care doctor to a specialist.

UT Physicians, one of Houston’s largest physician practices, also offers community-based medical care at its flagship location in the Texas Medical Center, as well as at health centers throughout the Houston area, including The Heights, Bellaire, Bayshore, Cinco Ranch and Sienna Village. The team of internationally recognized medical experts includes more than 1,000 doctors certified in 80 medical specialties and subspecialties.
