Sanjay Kumar, chairman and chief executive officer of Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) will deliver the keynote address for the 42nd annual commencement ceremonies at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). The commencement program will be held at NYIT's Old Westbury campus on Sunday, May 18 at 9:45 a.m.
"We are honored to have Sanjay Kumar as our commencement speaker," said Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., president and CEO of NYIT. "He is a distinguished leader in the digital economy who has both worldwide influence and local prominence. I am confident our graduates, their families and our distinguished guests will be enlightened and inspired by Mr. Kumar's presence, his remarkable story and insightful words."
Mr. Kumar was appointed president and CEO of CA in August 2000 and named chairman in November 2002. He has extended the company's global industry leadership through a strategic focus on CA's brands, business innovation and corporate governance policies. A U.S. citizen, Mr. Kumar was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1962 and emigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was 14. At a young age, Mr. Kumar realized the potential of technology and the role it could play in his future. He was an entrepreneur in college, and successfully parlayed his skills into a profitable business.
