Newswise — A prominent climate researcher at Texas Tech University is available to discuss consequences of unchecked climate change relevant to the latest developments in the international climate treaty discussions taking place at the G-20 summit this week in Pittsburgh.
Katharine Hayhoe, a research associate professor in the Department of Geosciences, and Geoff Heal, professor of finance and economics at Columbia University, are partnering with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) to discuss climatic and economic issues related to global warming and greenhouse gas emissions.
“Climate change is one of the major issues facing us today,” Hayhoe said. “It is encouraging to see G-20 leaders discussing the ways climate change may affect us and how we can contribute toward a solution.”
Hayhoe also contributed to the Nobel Prize-winning United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and was a lead author on a national report initiated by the White House to evaluate climate change impacts on the United States.
Experts also will discuss initiatives announced by China and Japan at the recent United Nations climate change summit.
