The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, Inc. (AARDA) salutes FOX Sports Supports, FOX Sports Media Group’s (FSMG) charitable initiative, for naming John Hopkins Medicine (JHM) one of three 2013 partner charities, citing its work conducting extensive research into the causes of autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis, lupus, arthritis and myositis, and developing new treatments to provide short and long-term relief.

Throughout the year, FSMG will focus all of its charitable resources toward JHM and the two other charities in campaigns that span all of FSMG’s sports properties, premier events and assets which started with the Daytona 500 and will culminate at the 2014 Super Bowl in New York/New Jersey.

“Johns Hopkins has long been at the forefront of research into autoimmunity,” said Virginia T. Ladd, Founder and Executive Director, AARDA. “With the establishment in 1998 of the Johns Hopkins Autoimmune Disease Research Center led by Dr. Noel R. Rose, JHM became an international model of how researchers, clinicians and epidemiologists with different specialties and in different departments can work collaboratively to further knowledge and understanding of autoimmunity as the basic, underlying mechanism responsible for triggering the more than 100 known autoimmune diseases.”

In selecting JHM and its autoimmune disease research work, FOX Sports Media Group has created JHM-specific public service announcements (PSAs) featuring FOX Sports personalities, Curt Menefee, Jimmy Johnson, Joey Harrington, Troy Aikman, Michael Waltrip and Regis Philbin. In this way, JHM and the other two charities will benefit from exposure to millions of viewers of NASCAR, MLB, UFC,NFL, college football on FOX Sports, as well as the NHL, NBA and college basketball on the FOX Sports regional networks.

FOX Sports Supports has become the industry leader in raising awareness for worthwhile causes. In the last five years, it has supported 21 charities overall, from helping kids with cancer to assisting military personnel and their families. Through public service announcements, verbal and graphic in game and/or pregame mentions, FSMG has successfully raised awareness for worthy charities helping to generate over $4 million in donations. In addition, the PSAs have received tens of millions of dollars’ worth of air time across all News Corporation channels helping to support an array of charitable causes.

In addition to JHM, FOX Sports Supports also selected Feeding America and STOMP Out Bullying as its other two partner charities this year.
