Newswise — Chicago (Nov. 5, 2013): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has awarded Beth Savage, MSN RN CPNP CPON®, with the 2013 Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award. Savage received her award at the 37th Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, held September 19-21 in Louisville, KY. The Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award is given in honor of APHON’s first president who lost her own battle with cancer in 1999.
Savage, Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick, NJ, was nominated for this award by her colleagues for her contributions to APHON and the pediatric hematology/oncology nursing community. She has been an active member of APHON for 17 years, during which she has contributed to several publications, presented at APHON conferences, served on the steering council and currently serves on the nominating committee.
“Beth is a nursing leader in pediatric hematology-oncology. She has developed teaching and discharge materials for patients and has planned and lectured at numerous conferences for APHON, local organizations and patient programs. She is an advocate for all patients, especially her young-adult patients and is respected by colleagues and collaborating physicians,” says Deena Centofanti in her nomination of Savage for the award.
APHON is the professional organization for pediatric hematology/oncology nurses and other pediatric hematology/oncology healthcare professionals. Its members are dedicated to promoting optimal nursing care for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and blood disorders, and their families. APHON provides the leadership and expertise to pediatric hematology/oncology nurses by defining and promoting the highest standards of practice and care to the pediatric, adolescent and young adult communities.
