It is clear that maternal mental health issues exert a toll not only on the mother, but the family. This is why CIHR is committed to funding research that aims to meet the needs of mothers and women of child-bearing age.

In advance of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14th, two CIHR funded researchers are available to discuss their perspectives on maternal mental health and wellbeing, and how they are striving to meet their needs.

  • Cindy-Lee Dennis is an expert in the field of maternal health and can speak on how her research will improve the care provided to women and their families across the perinatal period and how it is laying the groundwork for a healthy and productive future for Canadian children.
  • Rima Azar is a psychologist that can discuss the relationship between maternal mental health and pregnancy and infant health outcomes as well as ways to manage depression symptoms during pregnancy to improve mothers' and children's health.
