Newswise — While many animals can completely repair injured tissues, the mammalian heart possesses limited regenerative capabilities. Yan and Cigliola et al. show that AAV-mediated, zebrafish-derived tissue regeneration enhancer elements (TREEs) can direct pro-regenerative gene expression in injured cardiac tissue of mice and pigs that turn off following repair.
