Jonathon Schuldt, a professor of communication at Cornell University focusing on environmental communication, says the action by Florida to ban the use of ‘climate change’ in the state’s Department of Environmental Protection is sending a message that climate change is not important.

Schuldt recently published a study about how the American public responds differently to survey questions about “climate change” compared to “global warming.”

Schuldt says:

“Forbidding a state environmental agency from using terms like ‘global warming,’ ‘climate change,’ and ‘sustainability’ in effect sends the message – from the highest levels – that these things are not important. Citizens take cues from their government's communications to determine the priorities facing their country, state, or town. When a department of environmental protection fails to mention these topics, then as the old saying goes, silence can speak volumes.”
