Newswise — San Francisco, CA (February 4, 2015) – The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) announces that Alan Jay Schwartz, MD, MSEd, will succeed Lawrence J. Saidman, MD, as Editor-in-Chief of its online journal Anesthesia & Analgesia Case Reports. Dr. Saidman retired in December 2014.

Dr. Schwartz is a well-known educator and pediatric and cardiac anesthesiologist. He is currently Director of Education in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. In the position as Editor-in-Chief of A&A Case Reports, Dr. Schwartz will set the tone and editorial direction of this new journal, a companion publication to Anesthesia & Analgesia, the oldest peer-reviewed journal in the specialty of anesthesiology. Working with a world-class editorial board, Dr. Schwartz will encourage new submissions, serve as mentor to new authors, and explore opportunities to expand the scope of this publication.

Dr. Schwartz has published numerous articles, abstracts, book chapters, and other educational resources. He has also served on the editorial boards of the journal Anesthesiology, Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, and the Journal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia, is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Refresher Course Publication and has been an invited lecturer at dozens of institutions in the U.S., Europe and China.
