Newswise — Physicians and leaders from NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine will attend the 2016 American Psychiatric Association (APA) annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia from May 14-18.

NewYork-Presbyterian, in collaboration with its affiliated medical schools, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine, is the No. 1 hospital in the nation for psychiatry, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report. The hospital has consistently ranked among the top five hospitals for psychiatry over the last decade.

Dr. Maria A. Oquendo, director of residency training at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, professor of psychiatry and vice chair for education at Columbia University Department of Psychiatry and attending psychiatrist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, will be inducted as APA President on May 18. Dr. Oquendo, an expert in the treatment and neurobiology of mood disorders, suicide and global mental health, is the second faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia to be elected in the last three terms and the first Latina to hold the position.
